Miles For Lives

India by Road, Ireland by Heart

Leh is the largest town and the administrative capital of the Union Territory of Ladakh, located at an altitude of around 3,500 meters (11,500 feet) above sea level. Nestled in the Indus River Valley, Leh is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, arid mountains, and ancient monasteries, making it a key hub for both adventure tourism and Tibetan-Buddhist culture.
Historically, Leh was a major stop on the old Silk Route, linking Central Asia with the Indian subcontinent. Today, it attracts travelers with its unique blend of spiritual heritage, dramatic landscapes, and vibrant markets. Must-visit attractions include the Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, Namgyal Tsemo Monastery, and bustling bazaars offering handicrafts and traditional Ladakhi goods.
Leh also serves as a gateway to famous destinations like Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Khardung La, making it the starting point for many high-altitude adventures in Ladakh.
